The architecture here is remarkable – a tourist attraction in itself – and many of the stand-out properties are the homes of notable Irish celebrities including Bono, Neil Jordan, Van Morrison and Enya.

Dalkey has more than its fair share of excellent restaurants and bars, some brand new and some world-renowned. The Guinea Pig, DeVille’s and Jaipur offer a tasty and varied fare, to name a few, while The Club, The Queen’s Bar and Finnegan’s (a favourite of Bono’s) are all ideal spots for an after dinner drink.

A five-minute walk north of Marietta Woods brings you to the rugged coastline and to Bullock Harbour, a working, ‘boutique’ harbour where local fishermen and women tend to lobster and crab pots. The famed Forty Foot swimming spot is a short walk further up the coast.
